Exempla Healthcare’s newest hospital is progressing on schedule with a safety record that officials are calling "exceptional."
With nearly 321 days worked and 694,545 construction man-hours completed, the hospital has had no lost time due to worker injury. The facility is progressing on schedule at the site located about 25 miles northwest of Denver. About 95 percent of the foundation and structure has been completed with enclosure expected before the end of the year. The facility is expected to open to the public in the fall of 2004.
"The safety record of this project is exceptional," said David Hamm, CEO of Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center. "We are in the business of health care and wanted to make sure our job site is safe for the workers. We applaud the leadership of our contractors and subcontractors who have made safety their number one priority on this project."
Mortenson/Saunders was selected because of its proven track record of construction safety. The 600 workers at the job site participate in daily stretch and bend exercises to lessen the potential for injury on the job. The facility has already generated a buzz in the community.
"The reception from residents in Lafayette and surrounding communities has been phenomenal," Exempla spokeswoman Mary Jackson said. "They have embraced the new hospital and can’t wait for it to open. They realize that they will have access to quality health care near their home."
The medical campus will include the 477,000-square-foot hospital and two medical office buildings. Mortenson/Saunders joint venture is the general contractor for the hospital’s patient tower, diagnostic treatment center and central utility plant.
The Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center MOB-1 for community physicians will be built by Saunders Construction. The Rock Creek Medical Office Building will house approximately 70 Colorado Permanente Medical Group physicians and 150 additional medical staff. It is being constructed by Adolf & Peterson.
The hospital will have 143 licensed beds when it opens. The design will allow future expansion to support 350 beds. The 477,000-square-foot facility will offer full patient care services, including labor and delivery, cardiovascular care, level II neonatal intensive care, adult intensive care, interventional and diagnostic radiology, orthopedics and pediatrics.
Good Samaritan Medical Center is part of Exempla Healthcare, a not-for-profit, community-based health care system that manages two Denver hospitals, Exempla Lutheran Medical Center and Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital. Exempla Healthcare is sponsored by the LMC Community Foundation and the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System and is dedicated to providing responsive health care to the communities it serves. The hospital is currently looking for director-level candidates with demonstrated track records in clinical and leadership excellence to staff in the following units: Operating Room, Emergency Department, Critical Care, Pharmacy, Diagnostic & Testing, Medical/Surgery and Women’s Services. To find out more call the job line at (303) 425-4241 or visit the Web site at www.exemplajobs.org.
"The biggest benefit will be that residents in Lafayette and surrounding areas will have quality health care close to home," Jackson said.
Research shows that east Boulder Valley County, the hospital’s location, is growing rapidly. The hospital’s research also indicates that people are driving 30 minutes or more the east Boulder Valley County area into Denver to receive health care.
