Colorado Access granted child health plan contractPublished 3/31/2008

The Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing (HCPF) has named Colorado Access as the successful bidder for the operation of the Colorado Child Health Plan Plus Administrative Services Organization.

The resulting one year contract will become effective July 1, 2008 and will be renewable for up to 4 additional years.

As the Department’s contracted vendor, Colorado Access will provide administrative services to manage the State’s CHP+ self-funded managed care network. This includes:

v Providing physical health, behavioral health and pharmacy benefits management for a projected 28,000+ eligible children,

v Providing physical health, behavioral health and pharmacy benefits management for approximately 1,600 eligible pregnant women,

v Contract administration and provider relations for the State’s current provider network of over 7,700 providers,

v Provider network development,

v Claims administration, and

v Case management and utilization review.

Marshall R. Thomas, M.D. President and Chief Executive Officer and Chief Medical Officer said "We are very excited to have been awarded this contract which fits very well with our core mission and established competencies."

He added, "We look forward to working collaboratively with providers and Health Care Policy and Financing to further improve the state-wide system of care for children and pregnant women enrolled in Colorado’s CHP+ Program."

The Administrative Services Contract with the Department will be in addition to Colorado Access’ existing CHP+ HMO line of business, which currently serves over 27,000 members.

"Though the Administrative Services Contract is distinct from our existing CHP+ HMO contract, we believe that our prior experience serving this population will help to ensure a smooth transition and a high level of service for members and providers in the State CHP+ network." said Dr. Thomas.
