The Children’s Hospital ranks fourth in nation Published 9/5/2007

The Children’s Hospital has been ranked fourth in U.S.News & World Report’s first stand-alone "America’s Best Children’s Hospitals" issue which features a detailed ranking of the finest pediatric facilities in the United States. No other pediatric hospital in the western United States made the top five.

The Children’s Hospital has been ranked nationally by U.S.News & World Report every year since its 1993 inception. This year’s ranking is a significant leap from the hospital’s seventh place ranking in 2006.

The exclusive data will be published in the magazine’s September 3 issue, and is available online at

While, in the past, pediatric hospitals have been ranked based on reputation alone in the magazine's annual America ’s Best Hospitals issue, this expanded children's hospital ranking is based not only on reputation, but also on data and statistics about hospital performance and quality of care.

"We are extremely pleased to be recognized yet again by these prestigious national rankings," said Jim Shmerling, DHA, president and CEO of The Children’s Hospital.

"This national honor casts a bright light on the extraordinary work our staff, physicians and volunteers perform every day and night on behalf of children."

While U.S. News’s previous pediatric hospital rankings were based on reputation alone, this expanded version is based on a new and improved methodology, which weighed a three-part mix of reputation, death rate, and such care-related factors as volume, nursing care, advanced technology and recognition by outside organizations. Read a detailed description of the methodology.

The Children’s Hospital offers numerous dedicated hospital-based programs that are unique to the region as well as locations in Aurora, Broomfield, Littleton, Parker, Westminster, Centennial and Pueblo. A new location, The Children’s Hospital at Saint Joseph, will open in mid-September, prior to the main hospital’s move to its new location at E. Colfax and I-225.

Children’s has been noted for leading programs in liver transplants, oncology, eating disorders, heart programs and rural outreach to prevent childhood injuries.

Founded in 1908, The Children’s Hospital is a leading pediatric network entirely devoted to the health and wellbeing of children.

Continually recognized as one of the nation’s outstanding hospitals by U.S. News & World Report and Child Magazine, The Children’s Hospital is known both for its nationally and internationally recognized medical and research programs as well as outstanding everyday care for Denver area kids.

With more than 1,000 healthcare professionals representing the full spectrum of pediatric specialties, The Children’s Hospital Network of Care includes its main campus, twelve Children’s Care Centers and more than 400 outreach clinics.
