Rose RN wins Innovator Award for Project Lean

Sometimes small changes can have big results. Just ask Andrew Lieberman, an RN in the ICU at HealthONE’s Rose Medical Center. His initiatives to improve patient and nurse safety by streamlining supply and equipment storage have earned him the Denver hospital’s Innovator Award. But more importantly his Project Lean has saved the Intermediate Care (IMC) unit $34,000 this year in time and expired equipment, we well as reduced the chance for nurse injuries.

Banner, NCMC Create Distinguished Professorship in Nursing

Banner Health and North Colorado Medical Center (NCMC), longtime supporters of the University of Northern Colorado, have pledged to create a distinguished professorship in nursing. The $170,000 gift will go toward creating an endowment for a faculty member in the School of Nursing. Banner Health and NCMC intend for the endowment to grow to $500,000 over the next five years.

I’m not sure the “American Dream” is really all that “dreamy.” Life is so hectic, I always have so much to do taking care of my family and trying to make enough money that I feel overwhelmed most of the time. More than three million nursing professionals will play a vital role in transforming the U.S. health care system to attain the objectives set forth in the 2010 Affordable Care Act – legislation that represents the broadest health care overhaul since the creation of the Medicare and Medicaid programs. As more hospitals seek to earn the coveted Magnet recognition where nursing delivers excellent patient outcomes, many hospitals have already begun requiring that nurses either return to school for their bachelor’s degree or have a BSN before applying.
