Denver VA nurse manager earns top critical care award

The pieces are all coming together for RN Vickie Custer. After spending the majority of her nursing career at the Denver VA Medical Center, solving puzzles in critical care, in May she was awarded the Circle of Excellence award from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). Only about 25 critical care nurses from across the country receive the prestigious award annually.

Wife Acts Like Psycho - ASK VICKI

My wife acts like a "psycho" at times; she gets so emotional, maybe its PMS. I just sit there and wait for it to pass. What can I do to help her? First of all; sitting there and waiting for it to pass may be part of the problem. Her emotions escalate when yours are absent. Acknowledging and responding to your wife's thoughts and feelings is critical to productive communication.

Mary L. Crumbaker has been appointed Vice President, Corporate Responsibility and Chief Compliance Officer at Exempla Healthcare. Mary Shepler, RN has been appointed Interim Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver. Amanda Veit, RN, BSN has been appointed to the position of Senior Director of Surgical Services at Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital. Joel McFadden has accepted the position of IT Site Project Director at Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital. Christina L. Johnson, MD, FACEP will be appointed Chief Medical Officer at Exempla Lutheran Medical Center in Wheat Ridge. Barbara Davis, MA, Vice President of Performance Excellence at Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette, has been appointed by the Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology to the 2010 Board of Examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. The Baldrige Award was created in 1987, and is the highest level of national recognition for performance excellence that a U.S. organization can receive.

Qualified students are enrolling now for bachelor’s degree in nursing; grads will have workforce advantages Officials at the Community College of Aurora (CCA) and the University of Colorado College of Nursing at the Anschutz Medical Campus have announced the creation of the Integrated Pathway to Baccalaureate Nursing Education Program (Integrated Nursing Pathway). The Integrated Nursing Pathway is a collaboration that will benefit students looking for a meaningful career as well as healthcare providers who seek to hire baccalaureate-prepared nurses with outstanding preparation for professional practice.

Denver Health on June 16 broke ground on Pavilion M, its newest medical facility.

Slated for completion in late 2011, the four-story, 78,000-square-foot facility located at 7th and Delaware St., will include an outpatient dialysis center, an outpatient procedure center, Enrollment Services and a floor dedicated to inpatient and outpatient adolescent psychiatry.
