Schiavo Case: An Opportunity for Education and Action
Posted: 4/5/2005 at 10:11:54 AM

If Terri Schiavo had only documented what she would have wanted: her husband and parents would not be adversaries; politicians would not have used her life to assert their various political agendas; and the many, many dollars spent to finally decide what should be done could have been spent in a manner that would have benefited many. The purpose of this statement is not to take sides or to argue what should or should not have been done in the many legal and political battles involving Ms. Schiavo. Instead, I propose that each of us work within our own ability to help ourselves, our family, our church, our clients and our communities to focus on avoiding such situations through advance care planning.
